Two Years Now

I started this humble little effort of mine 2 years ago on January 1st. Yessirree, I did.

I was not sure where it was to go, or what I was going to do with it, beyond just a vague sketch in my head.

Often I hear that plans and outlines and ideas going forward are the way to get where one wants to go. Guess I didn’t know where I wanted to go, because I figured if I was going to do this, I better just start, and the first of the year is always a good day to do that. Start something, that is.

I had given it some thought. For some weeks, I had pondered the issue of a name. Title, yes. Aim and direction and focus? Not so much.

Probably why I never wrote a novel.

There was one goal I did set for myself, and that was to be true to me, and to keep this blog for me and no one else. That meant for me that I was going to honest (without hurting anyone, of course), and that this exercise was for me. I am glad that some have found it interesting and maybe entertaining or even helpful, but really? It’s more about what I want to write, and how I feel I want to express myself.

I didn’t know if anyone would ever find my blog. I didn’t know if I wanted anyone to find it. I didn’t tell my family about it for some weeks.  Maybe months.

But I put the link out there when I posted comments, out on Ravelry, and I let the fam know the secrets were being aired, like dirty laundry.

In all, it’s been a very rewarding experience, and I have even brought DSis, Middle Daughter, and BFF over to the dark side. (Mwahahaha!)

I recently started working on slurping my posts up into a book. (o my gah! That sounds so pretentious!) I am doing it 1) because I just love me some hard copy, and 2) what happens if Blogger disappears someday? In working through the ‘editing’ of the slurps, I am pleased with what I have found. Sure, some of it is cheesy, but some of my writing…well…it’s okay. I have grown, and my photography has matured.

Pretty sweet.

Some of the most fun I have had started this past October, when DSis and I started our tag-team blogging, and then opened Atomic Sisters (where she sells things, and I do not!). We have continued posting at our respective blogs on alternating days, which I think works very well. Keeps me motivated, scheduled, and honest! And we can feed off each other, too, which we have always done very well. Much to our mother's dismay as we sat in the backseat and laughed uproarilously at nothing.

Enough of the retrospective. Suffice it to say I think I will keep at it. Those who know me (in real life) know I generally always have something to say!

With anniversaries around here come contests, and here’s the deal for this one.
1. Leave a comment with a goal you have for the New Year. (We don’t do no stinking resolutions around here!)
2. And come next Friday (Jan 8), there will be a drawing.
3. Doesn’t get much more simple than that.
4. (If you do not wish to be in the drawing, that’s okay. You can still wish me a happy bloggy-versary. Just let me know you are opting out.)

Seems like I have left something out…oh, the prize! Well, see it’s like this. We have this Etsy shop called Atomic Sisters, and the winner will receive a $35 shopping spree to said shop. (fabric, and aprons, and handspun yarn! Oh my!)

There you go, folks

  1. Goals, let's see. I am going to steek and not have an attack of apoplexy over it. That is all, I think it's enough. Happy New Year and Happy Blogoversary!

  2. I have enjoyed your efforts very, very much. Being connected gets more important as time goes by. Actually, it has always been important, but during the child raising years, one can get distracted!
For 2010, I plan (hope)to get some direction toward reducing my stashes-both yarn and fabric-by using them up! (what a concept!) However, if I should win, well, that would not be "stashing" but rather appreciating!!!

  3. Hmmm... for this coming year I would like to:

    1) Work on a felted project
    2) Knit some of those garments I have planned for myself
    3) Make my way to 350 geocaches

  4. I enjoyed reading about your two year journey as I feel I am getting a bit established in mine - blogging is so cool! Anyhow, my 2010 goal is to improve my photography. I'm looking into a few courses recommended in Blissful Blogging and may do the Community College course or two. Plus, I WILL get myself a Holga and try my hand at lomography. So that's that. Happy 2010.

  5. Happy Blogaversary Becky!

Hmm...goals...let's see...I haven't even thought about what they might be.

    1) Learn rug hooking. (Books are on the way!)
    2) Improve and expand on my knitting skills.
    3) Hug my dogs and hubby even more.
    4) Have more patience.
    5) Survive to see another year.

That's about it! I'm sure I could come up with more, but right off the top of head those things popped into my mind.

Happy 2010~and may the next decade be better than the last!

  8. hmmm...my 2010 goals are:

    move home (in May)
spin a dent in my fiber stash
overcome my fear of knitting lace.

There. That's all. If I do nothing else, I will do these three things. I will. I will.

  9. Happy bloganniversary ! Just had mine for 2 year too ! :) In 2010 I just made myself a big commitment making a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days (about 2.75 years). Some knit or crochet related and many just to kick my ass ;)

You can find more on my new blog : http://sophie8s101in1001.blogspot.com/

  11. I have a long list on my blog....but it's really more of a goals/do do list, not so much resolutions....

anyhow, my main knitting goal was to self-publish (on Ravelry) at least 1-2 small project patterns/month.

  12. Thought I'd enter your contest since you entered mine! Happy new year!

  13. Oh, and I guess I should have said my new years resolution....well, every year it's to lose weight, but my knitting resolution is to get published. Yay!

  14. Well, I have a few goals for 2010. Mainly, I am going to stop adding to my stash. Fabric, yarn, stuff! Until I use (fabric/yarn) or get rid of (stuff/clothes I don't wear) some of it!

You can put me in the drawing, so if I win, I can brag that I won!(...but then pick someone else!)

  15. Congratulations on your blogaversary momma! I have a goal to be more motivated in my Pampered Chef Biz and to try to be more organized, maybe its the kiddos but I just can't keep track of anything!
Don't put me in the drawing, wouldn't have time to find a way to use it!

  16. ConGrAtuLatioNS!!! I am so proud of you and your craftivites. I love bragging about you to my friends and coworkers. I say oh yeah my mom does this and this and this, and made this and this and this, and come look at her blog, oh yeah she also does this and that too!!!

I love you momma. My goal for the next year includes many but the main one is getting enrolled and restarted in school to acquire my BSN.

Now I am going to go to your etsy shop and do some window browsing just in case I win!

    ;)

  17. Congrats on 2 years, and what a lovely store you have, too!

My goals are simple -- 10 shawls in 2010 (there's a rav group) and write up a few more patterns.

  18. Hi! I just popped over through the Blog Hub Raverly group. Happy Happy Blogoversary!
My knitting goal for 2010 is to finally knit a sweater...for me! Seems that was on my goal list last year as well. Time will tell...

  19. Okay. . .

--get around to hand quilting one of my quilt tops

  20. My New Year goals are to knit more from my stash - finish projects in a more timely fashion (as well as my UFO's) and eat healthier!

Good luck with yours and I love the handspun in your shop - really pretty!! (Purple mountain is niiiice!)

  21. Hmmmm. My knitterly goal is to knit something with lace or cobwebweight yarn; ideally some kind of shawl, but most likely a scarf as that seems much more manageable :-)

  22. Congrats on 2 years of blogging!
One of my goals is to finish my sweater UFO's prior to Stitches
    West.
