I had soap.
I had wool.
I know felting theory. (technical term...)
So I put coats on my soap.
1. Obtain soap.
2. Obtain wool. I used some wool top.
3. Pull off pieces sized to wrap around soap lengthwise and widewise. Both wise, in other words. Not too thick, not too thin. Lay contrasty colors on top layer.
4. Slightly wet the wooly 'envelope' and start massaging gently. Gently, and not too wet, or the wool will get all askew and boy, there will be starting overs!
5. Continue to massage. Foamy lather will...foam and lather up. The wool will shrinky dink. Wet more. Rinse hands. Check progress. Continue until satified. Not rocket science.
6. First use won't show alot of suds, but after that it's all good. Or so my resources report...As the soap is used at the sink, in the shower, or in the tub, the wool is supposed to continue to felt and shrink. We will see!
And that is what I did with my Friday evening.
Oh kewl!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the finished product??
ReplyDeleteSo, pictures of the final product?
ReplyDeleteNothing quite like a soap in sheep's clothing.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I tried it once, but I guess I wasn't patient enough and gentle enough. Results weren't pretty. Check out the u-tube video on my facebook page. It is very clever and funny....about knitting, to boot!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was cruising etsy not too long ago and she called me to show me this really cool soap, had I ever heard of it? Looked just like yours and of course I had already bought some at a show. Was it fun to make?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Kind of marble-y looking! Can't wait to hear how they work.
ReplyDeletePretty funny, Lynne!!
ReplyDeleteWell, geez, I learn something new every day I come here, I think. I, too, am curious about the final product. Waiting with baited breath for the next classroom session...
ReplyDeleteI felted some soap once. It was really nice on my skin - a good exfoliant but not nearly as abrasive as a loofah, for example.
ReplyDeleteThe wool only halfway shrunk as the soap got more and more used over time; past a certain point, the wool didn't shrink any more and the soap would kind of rattle around inside it.
