Does anyone out there remember the Spencer Tracy movie, packed chock full of other stars (Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Sid Caesar, Jonathon Winters, Ethel Merman...the list goes on!) When Dearest Sister and I were itty bitty, we traveled to KC to see the Big Girls. They always showed us the sights in the big city, and mostly we were pretty wide eyed to what our glamourous big sisters had in store for us. One of the good times was going to see this movie, in one of the big movie theatres, in Cinemascope!
But I digress.
I read the headlines today."Will The Large Hadron Collider Save the World or Destroy It?" . (I vote neither.) "Armstrong's Back and Looking to Win an 8th Tour De France at Age 37". (I vote go for it.) Stocks tumbled as much as they gained yesterday (I vote 'agh'! My retirement!). And (disclaimer: know that I am a democrat) the McCain ticket has legs, and they are SPalin's. (I voted for Hillary, but now am an Obama supporter. See! Dem...all the way! It's the issues, not the sex, even though it would be sweet to have a woman calling the shots, but I want the shots called the way I see them. The 'publicans and I, we just don't jive. And that ends the political segment of tonight's program.)
And these stories are from MSNBC, not some offbeat website, even though a good Onion satire can be pretty darn cathartic for me.
So for balance, I have gratuitous garden photos, because I am feeling good. The iris, they are dug.
For Kate, my roses.
My pumpkin (with hand for scale). It is groo-oowing....and I know it really doesn't loooook like a pumpkin....yet....maybe it's not. Maybe it's an alien pod...maybe I shouldn't fall asleep....(anyone remember THAT movie?)
Today's harvest of tomatoes.
Lookie here! Yellow squash!
My purple hyacinth beans. Not for eating. All volunteer this year.
Wonderful Guy's raspberries. Definitely for eating.
Missouri Moondrops. Blooming again now that it's cooled off.
Marigolds. Is there anything more durable?

You're garden is beautiful!!
PLEASE as not to remind me of how old I am!! I saw that movie (MAD MAD (etc) WORLD) which was kind of like today's Amazing Race the only place it could be seen "back then" : in the movie theater.
I am not sure who they are polling when they say that American women are voting for Palin because she's a woman. She may be female but she is so far off the mark with my political ideals that I cannot imagine voting for her. I am a Democrat that thought for a few seconds about voting for McCain after Hilary's failure. That was, however, before he added on Palin for his running mate. I cannot imagine her as President. No. Thank you. Nor can I imagine voting for them.
Your veggies are vegorgeousumous. (made up word). So envious.
I was thinking the yellow flower is Oenothera Missourensis, which I call MO Primrose. Does it go by both names? I always have trouble remembering the common name for this one, but for some reason the Latin name sticks with me! DS
We have so much in common....even our politics! Love the garden and vegetable shots, and when can I come for dinner! Thanks for your kind words about my Miata. I am REALLY going to miss her.
I loved that movie! Spencer Tracy was so great!
Voting for anyone simply because of their sex or skin color is a mistake, in my opinion. Personally, I couldn't vote for Hillary. Palin? I have no idea. I couldn't care less about her parenting skills or her pregnant daughter, but it's her governing skills and her decision making abilities that I'm interested in. But really, should a vice prez be the deciding factor in an election? Most of them spend their time going to funerals and "official functions", looking pretty and working on projects. How involved are they really in governing the country?
Your garden is gorgeous...I am soooo jealous!
Looking at your vegetable garden inspires me to maybe do another vegetable garden next spring. It will give me something to look forward to through the winter. Your vegetables and flowers look lovely.
