Armed with her degree, Lovely Step-Daughter Daughter left for Crazy Desert Town to find her fame and fortune. Or at least a job in her field.
And that she did, and she stuck it out, making the grade for lo, these long (and distant) years.
Even if eventually Dearest Sister came to rest (so to speak) in the same locale. And even if we received killer deals on lodging most places we stayed, Lovely Step Daughter was far from home, and though Wonderful Guy understands the need for independence and acquiring decision making skills and standing on ones own two feet? Well, we are glad an opportunity has come up that allows her to return closer to the home front. Three of the five will be within hollerin’ distant.
Sort of.
Dearest Sister and her kitties are saddened. Lovely Step Daughter was the primary kitty-sitter. And DSis thinks The Guy isn’t as likely to tote me the desert now that his little girl doesn’t live there anymore.
Well, Sister? We will have to meet elsewhere then, won’t we? Maybe without the fellas.

Settling In
…but still feeling behind.
Behind in the yard, on projects home, craft or otherwise, on blogging and other computer work, on outside activities.
This new job is kicking my butt. It’s been a while since I have been so challenged, and worked at this level. I am loving it, and it’s kicking my butt.
I have lots to write about. I even had to delete part of the next to last post for not being able to post photos of the most recent yarn purchase. I wanted to get the post up and not wait until Blogger was happy.
So here is that. For two Baby Surprise Jackets (EZimmerman). I will be making them with cuffs and collar, which is illustrated further down in the article and here.

Crystal Palace Crème
For who I now know to be both Grandbebe Girls. Yep. Both girls.
Opal and Bean. Bean is just the current reference...not the name. Please...no freaking out!
I. Am. Thrilled!
With the fact they are girls.
And that the chosen name is not Bean. At least to my present knowledge....
Moving on.
Speaking of the joy that daughters can bring…Lovely Step Daughter called a few days ago from her home in Desert Crazy Town telling me of several days off in a row, and a spontaneous trip back to the Rockies. Wonderful Guy not being home, we decided to let it be a surprise. When she showed up day before yesterday, he was! Surprised, that is. We went to where Only Step Son runs a local eating establishment and had dinner.
It is a gift to be able to observe this family in action, and to be included.

Change of Plans
Before going to the lys to practice with the spinning wheel last night, I received a phone call from Only Step-Son. He needed to put together some notices for a get-together at his work, and wondered if I could help. Needed them today! Knew I was going to spin, and would wait ‘til I was done, if that would work…
I cannot say no to the boy. (Boy…heh! He is 28!) He asked if he could bring the Grand-Pup over. Again, I cannot say no!
We worked on formatting the notices for about 45 minutes. It took scanning the logo on Wonderful Guy’s computer and emailing to mine. Then tweaking the logo using Elements, and formatting the notice in Word. I have Office 2007, and the new version is just enough different to cause some effort in this. Then the printing of 30 sheets with 4 notices/sheet. He worked on the trimming. Not a super-human effort, but some work. And it was later at night than when I typically operate at a full mental capacity.
Only Step-Son was very thankful.
About the time we were finishing, Wonderful Guy got home from his meeting. The two of them enjoyed some time together, with Best Dog Ever and Grand-Pup. Best Dog Ever is very concerned about Grand-Pup presence in her house, and about the attention given said creature. Grand-Pup just wants to play with toys! Grand-Pup thinks my spindle is a toy….
After taking Only Step-Son home, Wonderful Guy mentions again how grateful Only Step-Son was for my help. Then he thanks me, too, for helping his son out. He truly appreciates the effort I made.
And, honestly, I was glad I could be of help.
It is not easy to blend two families, and of late, we have had kind of a wild ride. Wonderful Guy and I have remained true to our promise of being open and honest with each other, and I feel that has helped us weather the storm. I accept his feelings, and let his feelings be his. I try to figure out my own feelings, my own issues, where my issues come from, and what is mine to work on. Plenty there to keep me busy, as my issues are lodged pretty deeply in 50+ years of habits and patterns that I have only recognized in the last 6 years as co-dependent and unhealthy.
Our kids are all adults, the raising of them pretty much over, but fortunately, we are close emotionally, if not physically, to them all. We see or talk to them regularly and frequently, and are still a presence in their lives. My hope is to be a more positive example of healthier patterns going forward.
(This is what Eldest Daughter calls my hippie talk)

Welcome...
...to my humble effort. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, and I hope you find something mildly interesting, slightly amusing, barely creative, or at the very least, not too terribly trite.
