This could very well be 'The Decade of Retirement'.
Which is a very exciting thought. My time to do with as I will! Mine. Mine! All MINE!!
But. Also? Certainly the decade of turning sixty. Which is a very sobering thought. Very. Very Sobering.
How can I be this old? I watch reruns of ‘That 70’s Show’ and just crack up, because, you know, there I am, bell bottoms and all. Like just yesterday!
Or so.
But guess what? Even those actors? All grown up.
I look at the pictures from Christmas and am just so warmed by my kids and the grandbebes, and then I see ME! Who is that old woman?! While I love my natural hair color, and especially not coloring it, it still takes me back to see how…silver….it is.
I just don’t see myself that way. There is some big disconnect somewhere, and while I am okay with being 50-ish and feeling really alive and learning and growing blah blah blah…
Sixty! Seriously?
Whatever. What am I going to do about it?
So I started those French Press Slippers yesterday. I found the pattern in my stocking Christmas morning. (Or at least the funds to buy the pattern!) I have been studying the pattern, and...here are my thoughts...
after knitting with lacewgt, and fingering, on sz 6 and sz 2, I thought I would change it up to worsted and sz 15s!
It took me longer than 90 minutes to knit, but still, not hard, and pretty fast.
Patons Classic Wool can't be beat for felting, even by hand, which is my lot in life now, since I bought my fancy schmancy front loader.
My first pair worked out very well, and I think the pattern well written. The help from the French Press group on Ravelry was...helpful.
However.
While these are not completed completed, they are completely felted. As small as they are going to get, in other words. And they are not small enough for me.
Evidently.
Fortunately, I do not have the largest feet in my family. I will make another pair of the next size smaller. Which I considered doing...but then thought to myself, oh no! I have lo-ong feet. Which I do. Sort of.
But not this long. They will go to DSis when dry and finishing touches...touched. If they don't fit her, perhaps they will travel to Wisest Sister. Middle Daughter also wears her some boats, so she might also be an option.
If we strike out, I still call it a learning experience, and nothing lost. The pattern is great, and the yarn is not expensive.
At least, that is my frame of mind this afternoon.

Welcome...
...to my humble effort. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, and I hope you find something mildly interesting, slightly amusing, barely creative, or at the very least, not too terribly trite.

So...Wisest Sister and Middle Daughter "Wear them some boats??" I believe you can redeem yourself by sending the slippers DIRECTLY to WS and knitting a matching pair for Middle Daughter!
I will turn be 63 later this year -- turning 60 wasn't nearly as depressing as I thought it would be. I filed for Social Security last year, so now I only work 20 hrs/week, and earn just about the max amount one can ($14,160) without being penalized by SS -- sweet. Of course, it still bugs me that Gordon is closer to your age -- he's only 56 and sometimes he annoyingly pretends that he is not familiar with pop culture from my teenage years because...well, he was a mere child.
Love those slippers -- it's so funny that you're looking for someone with bigger feet. It's like a Cinderella story except with a big wool shoe instead of a little glass one.
Gaynell! Also as in all of us! ALL of USSSS!
Exactly, Martha. Cinderella, only backwards, and not with step sisters!
It's a total mystery to me how I could have turned 60 a few months ago when it was only yesterday that I turned 20.
Seems as if everyone is knitting the french Press Slippers. I'm feeling peer pressure to jump on the bandwagon - and they are so cute! Good luck with knitting ones that fit YOU!
If you like to felt things, Becky, have you ever done the Felted Clogs (slippers really) from Fiber Trends? It's my favorite pattern of all time. I've made tons of them for myself and other people. Well, maybe not tons, but quite a few. I showed them recently on my blog while I was making hubby a new pair. In a few days I hope to post about them again and go through the whole process. I took all the photos while I was making his back in December and haven't gotten around to posting them yet.
Sorry your French Presses don't fit, they look really cute!
Hey Lynne- I have been trying to comment over at your place, and the word verif keeps saying I don't know how to spell! About the slippers, I have done some research, and am not without hope. Or people with longer feet! I am not distressed. Yet.
When I look in the mirror all I see is old. Me. Very old. Yet recently I showed a picture of myself and my daughter to Karen and she couldn't tell us apart. Naturally, I thought she was just sucking up to me with a grand compliment.
I don't know why it's so hard for us to see ourselves as others see us. But, you look great. And, I would have guessed 50, not 60.
PS: Now that I've complimented you can I have them booties? [Kidding!!!]
I'm ignoring the first part of your post in order to preserve my delusion that I am younger than my children. However, I do love those slippers and have been stalking them. It's time for me to actually make them.
Hey! My comment is missing! Did you censor me! I don't remember exactly what I said, but something to the effect of "I NEED THOSE SLIPPERS!!"
