Boy oh boy! Today...well...this weekend is one of my favorites of the whole year. It is the weekend of the Friends of the Library booksale. It opened at at 8 or 9, and I could barely contain myself until I took my lunch at 11.
I present my haul for your inspection!
This does not include the 12 step meditation books I picked up for passing along AT. SUCH. GOOD. PRICES!!
I went with two particular titles in mind this time, along with a general list of authors, and random ideas of picking up knitting, quilting, and gardening books. Really, at $2 and $3 per hardback, one can't go wrong. If I end up not liking a title, I donate it back to the library (and get a charitable deduction!).
But I digress. My search was for two of my favorite books of all time. And I found them.
Behold! The Princess Bride, which Dearest Sister turned me onto in high school, waaaaaaay before the movie. When they made the movie, we were both skeptical at first, but were pleased when we saw the end product.
And The Phantom Tollbooth. I was read this in grade school, and was entranced by Milo's story. I remember it to this day. I found a copy of each of these earlier in my life, but they have escaped me. Don't ask me how. I don't loan books. (Their mine, mine, I tell you, all MINE!)
Now I have copies again.
On a side note...on my way back to work...I was caught by the infamous noontime Fort Collins trains and their engine switching. For 35 freaking minutes!
At least I had reading material.

Welcome...
...to my humble effort. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, and I hope you find something mildly interesting, slightly amusing, barely creative, or at the very least, not too terribly trite.

You sound like me. I hate to loan my books unless I know they are going to be returned to me, and in the same condition they were originally lent in. My mother-in-law once sent me a book (large format paperback) that she had literally cut in half in order to read it in bed better. ACK!!!! Murder!!!! I have not lent her a book of mine since. Can't risk it.
I've never heard of the Phantom Tollbooth.
Trains in Ft. Collins: not a ton of them coming through but when they do, watch out!
I recently went through my bookshelves and have stacks to donate either to the library or I hear that the nursing home really needs extra books.
The best and most favorite I keep for myself. My husband doesn't understand why I can't get rid of some books after I read them. Hmmm....
Wow! you got some good buys. I love when our Friends of the Library have their sales. Such good bargains.
Wow! Congratulations on your "new" books! I watch too much TV, but maybe if I keep reading your blogs I'll find a good book and enjoy it someday! I don't know how you do it. . . knit, work, ride a bike, hike, work in the yard, blog, keep in touch with your girls, travel, cook, etc. You are one heck of a woman! (I think it is because you were in 4-H!!!) Love ya, Tish
I love getting great books at great prices. I've got 3 books that I'm sleeping with right now. I read every night before I go to sleep.
I love books. I haven't been reading as much as I should lately. They are a wonderful little escape.
Nice haul! Sorry about the train though--- where was your knitting?
Eee. The Phantom Tollbooth! I discovered that in 4th grade and it became an all-time favorite! Milo, Tock, and the Humbug leaping to the Isle of Conclusions and having to swim through the Sea of Knowledge to return -- though the Humbug comes out perfectly dry... the Mathemagician and King AzAz... the Princess of Sweet Rhyme and the Princess of Pure Reason...
The Princess Bride isn't bad, except I didn't really like the ending. I was never quite sure if everyone (except the evil characters, of course) had a happy ending or not.
Although I have always loved going to the library, and the public library in Cheyenne was my major hang-out, I never knew how lucky I was to have a local public library until I came to Peru. Libraries are few and far between here. Lucky for me, the institute where I work has a small library. Most of the books are old, but still there is interesting reading. the drawback is that in order to check out a book, I have to have been working there for a year and become a member. Otherwise, I have to grab a few minutes with a book between classes, inside the library. Inconvenient, but better than no reading at all. It could become a major hang-out for me again!
Ooohhhhh I am super jealous of your awesome score at the FOL Sale. You managed to get your hands on some great books!
I've added The Princess Bride to my "to read" list on Goodreads.com
I adore the movie (went to see it on my birthday, on the big screen, at The Lyric Cinema!), but had never read the book.
