King Tut, Andre’s, and Grown-Up Time

Twice in one month I have eaten at Andre’s in Denver.  What a treat for me!  The occasion for this last opportunity was the King Tut exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.

After hearing the exhibit was going to be in Denver, I determined to go.  In my life, many of these kinds of opportunities have presented themselves nearby to where I lived, and I have let circumstances persuade me from taking advantage.

Not so much now.  I try to seize the day when I can, and see what I can see, sometimes to The Guy’s chagrin.  BodyWorld, Titanic, if they come to town, I am likely to follow the hordes.  As a matter of fact, we saw those, too….the Mongol Hordes…  Anyway, the Guy was going to let me go with Youngest, until SonInLaw said he wouldn’t mind seeing the gold.  Not to be outdone, The Guy chose to come along.

And therefore the menfolk endured Andre’s with us wimmin.  Because.  If we are Denvering during the day, we are goin’ to Andre’s.  Just how it is with us.  I say endured because one is served ‘European portions’ there.  Suffice it to say after the museum, we stopped for a snack on the way home.  But still.  Youngest and I surely did enjoy ourselves there, and established that the last time we ate together at Andre’s was with ‘everyone’ back in KC.

Tut was interesting, and the crowds not overwhelming.  None of us had been to the Denver Art Museum before and it might be worth a trip back.  So good.

An afternoon with offspring and spouse?  Absolutely delightful.  I am fortunate indeed to have the relationships I have with my kids (all five!) and their various and sundry significant others.

Out and About

My Saturday was a full day. I rose early to be at the farmer’s market shortly after they opened. Which is 8:00am for the one I was shooting for. There is another that opens at 10 or 11, and another mid-morning on Sunday, and perhaps another on a mid-week afternoon. Times change. I remember ‘Farmer’s Market’ used to imply before the crack of dawn on Saturday, at a very inconvenient area mid-city, and if one arrived after 7AM, nothing but the dregs were left. The worst we worry about now at the market I frequent is whether we will get a parking place right across the street.

Also? Gourmet dog biscuits and hand lotion bars are sold. Items likely not found at the markets of the past…

Any way, my market booty will provide us with roasted beets and carrots (both of the usual and purple varietals!) and onions and squash and new potatoes and plums.

And one gourmet dog biscuit.

After a quick round of the vendors, a mad dash home, tossing the produce in the fridge, grabbing another cup of joe, I was off to the monthly meeting of the weavers and spinners guild that I joined over the summer. I missed the first meeting in September when all the offspring were in the vicinity so I wanted to make it to this one. I am all serious about figuring out how this organization works. I am intrigued by this group of talented and interesting folk. I did not stay for the program, however.

I had plans, you see.

I dashed out immediately after the business meeting and headed south. I met my friend from college days for a last lunch before she moves north….wa-aa-ay north…for a few years.

We ate at one of my favorite places for lunch in Denver. We ate at Andre’s. I had Dobisch Torte for dessert. (For those that know about these things…)

After a great lunch, and a wonderful visit, we said good-bye for now, and I made a stop at a close-by LYS, the Lamb Shoppe. I didn’t make any purchases, though. I was beginning to feel the effects of my day’s schedule. I looked around quite a bit, and searched through their Mini Mochi bin looking for another ball of the colorway 118, but to no avail.

I thought I might head home through Boulder, taking in an LYS there, and maybe spying some foliage for photos, but traffic was poor, and after several minutes of stop and go, I turned Scooby-Roo north.

The day was already full enough.

Addendum and Additional News

First: Thanks for all the encouragements toward my dyeing efforts. I am very pleased with the Crimson.  (It still hasn't been placed away!) I want to keep looking at it...thinking 'I made that!') And I do think once I overdyed the yellow to green, it turned out very passable. (Lynne, it might end up in Atomic Sisters.  There is 275yds, 6 oz, of 2-ply at 12-14 wpi.) It is trial and error, however.  So much so, that I called the yarn garage sale person to see if she had sold the rest of her dyes. She had, but not to be outdone, DSis and I hunted down clearance Easter Egg dye.

Oh yeah.  I am good for some more trial and error-ing.  And we both love us some bargain shopping!

Second: The soap felting FO's are pictured in the post.  They are used just like that, for wash clothes/scrubbies/latherer-uppers.  I tried one out in the shower, and with 'soaping up' action between the hands, quite a bit of lather was produced.  AND! I do believe the wool must have some ex-foliating qualities.  So sorry if the last post was disconnected and unclear.

See.  We've been on the run.  Saturday the agenda included The. Auto. Show! in Denver where many things were seen and experienced.

This creepy, scary snowman...

And this.  I am still trying to understand this last...Is Fox News being...funny?  Or making fun of themselves?

(What?  You were expecting photos of cars maybe?)

For lunch we went here!  Be still, my heart.  This is my favorite place ever to have lunch in Kansas City.  It it THE PLACE for lunches with sisters and daughters and nieces.  It is a signature place at a singular location with outstanding dishes.  And desserts to die for.

And there is also one in Denver.  It is not quite the same, a bit more...western...in its approach.  And yet.  There is a bit of the same ambiance and way of doing things and a familiarity that feels very good.

And. Desserts to die for.

After lunch, we stopped here. Wonderful Guy takes me to yarn shops.  I go to fish stores. (And apparently Auto Shows...)

There were some other stops on the way north that involved looking at automobiles.  A new one may be in our immediate future, you see, and shopping for these things take time.  Or at least for us, it does. (Update: a new one came to live with us Wednesday evening...)

On Sunday, we spent some time with the Grandbebe Girls and their parents for the 'official' birthday party.  Her peers around so the party girl was all involved with her party peeps, and had little time for old people.  I did get a photo or two, though.

Brushing off the buns after sliding into the dirt!

I think she loves her grandmama!

So busy as bees and trying to keep up with it all!

  • Welcome...

...to my humble effort. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, and I hope you find something mildly interesting, slightly amusing, barely creative, or at the very least, not too terribly trite.
