And when Dearest Sister offered up some of her vintage aprons, one of a pattern she dubbed ‘atomic’, I had to claim it.
Initially, my intent was to use the fabric as the apron was in need of mending.
I mend. I do! Sometimes. The Offspring will say, ‘Nooooooo!, not the black hole of the mending basket!’ Poo. What do they know? So what if they outgrew a couple of things before I got to them? They were growing FAST!
But I digress.
Claiming the material for re-purposing…then I read all the comments about how ALL the young girls are using apronage now-a-days. For pockets, for convenience, for stylin’!
Hmm. I have aprons. I have made aprons. Aprons that won ribbons. At county fairs! I might even have apron patterns…not that one would need a pattern for such. Certainly didn’t back in the day of 4-H!
So the ‘atomic apron’ has been mended. I think it is smashing. Like atoms!
Then I went looking for my aprons but didn’t find what I was looking for. My blue ribbon apron has been lost somewhere down through time. But I found this one! (from Dearest Sister)
And this one (same source).
I even have a Longaberger apron. It had some stains but I photoshopped them out.
And this one. I wager not many have asphalt aprons!
I also found myself two patterns for aprons…one with a matching potholder pattern!
I might just start sewing up some aprons. You know. In my spare time.
Don't forget Dearest Sister's blogaversary giveaway. She has 'too cool for skool' stuff, and the efforts are minimal for maximum odds.

I loved the Atomic one! I would have been happy with that one as well. What needed mending?
I still only wear aprons for cooking.
I think you should make the one with the bib attached. I never understood aprons from the waist down since all the spatters I get from cooking happen on the top half of my body; not the bottom! :) I love that retro style! And pockets ... gotta have pockets!
Apparently aprons are big in the blogs, who knew? I actually threw all mine out. Maybe I should get some more.
A woman at the local farmer's market kicked off our apron frenzy. She had the cutest vintage designs for sale. Too spendy.
So a friend of mine sewed each of us aprons for our birthdays. Mine was black/white/red polka dot - the coolest thing I'd ever seen. 2 days later my daughter absconded with my precious apron on the pretense of borrowing it for book club dinner.
That was a year ago... :(
Aprons... I love them. I've been meaning to make myself one for a while now, and this blog post may have just inspired me to get off my tush and do so!
I love the Atomic apron. Beautiful and cool.
Ah yes, the asphalt kitchen! I remember your tales of cooking apple crisp in the viscosity oven (or whatever it was!)
You know, these aprons would look better if you had modeled them for the photos. Does WG know how to use your camera?
Lynne - the pockets and ruffles needed some restitching in places. I splatter all over my top, but wipe my hands where I 'should be' wearing an apron.
Susan - I was under the impression it was a younger thing, but now I am not so sure!
Kater - kids! what are we going to do?!
Jan - Ah! the fond memories you have dredged up. Not just 'the halcyon days of the lotion closet', but now the days of apple crisp by the lab ovens, scrambled eggs over bunsen burners, and snow ice cream in the paint lab...
What??? Fashionistas are now doing apronage??? That's one trend that hasn't made it past the pre-school teachers and into the trendsetters' realm down here in Lima... yet...
I love aprons, but never think to don one until after I have spilled on myself while cooking. I need an apron with some sort of alarm that reminds me to put it on.
So I had a commenter that gave me the discretion to post her comment or not. I decided I would do so...anonymously.
"I like the lady named Lynne that says "I still only wear aprons for cooking." No clothes, only aprons ...bet her husband likes that! Yah, she definitely ought to have an apron with a bib!"
Thought you might enjoy that one, Lynne!
